Spotlight: Melissa Lawrence, LVT
Welcome to a wonderful Wednesday✨ we can’t wait to show off our next AMAZING veterinary technician from our community ❤ currently the Nursing Manager for VEG Brookhaven, Melissa has entered the chat!
“For over two decades, I’ve dedicated my life to caring for animals, starting my journey quite unexpectedly in high school. What began as a simple after-school job at a small, one-doctor veterinary practice turned into a passion that has shaped my career and life. I studied biology and chemistry at Georgia State University. I obtained my LVT in 2007, and since then, I’ve worked in a diverse range of settings—from general practices and emergency clinics to managing a farm.
My experience spans small and large animals, exotics, and even wildlife. Yet, it's in the high-stakes world of emergency veterinary medicine where my heart truly lies. The unpredictability, the adrenaline, and the opportunity to make a real difference in moments of crisis have always drawn me in. Each case, no matter how challenging, reaffirms my commitment to the well-being of the creatures we share our lives with.
What truly keeps me going in veterinary medicine isn't just the animals—it’s the people. Over the years, I’ve found immense joy in teaching and guiding the next generation of veterinary technicians and assistants. Watching them grow in knowledge and confidence, and knowing that I’ve played a part in shaping their future, has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. Leadership and mentorship are as essential to me as the medicine itself, and I feel privileged to contribute to the legacy of compassionate care in veterinary medicine. Compassionate care not only for the pets, but also for the owners, and my colleagues.“
ER medicine is fast paced, strenuous, and stressful - having your skills, knowledge, and expertise at the helm has changed countless lives. Thank you for all that you do Melissa, you make this world a better place. Happy Veterinary Technician Week ❤️
