Scope of Practice for Veterinary Technicians

Veterinary Technician Oath

“I solemnly dedicate myself to aiding animals and society by providing excellent care and services for animals, by alleviating animal suffering, and by promoting public health. I accept my obligations to practice my profession conscientiously and with sensitivity, adhering to the profession’s Code of Ethics, and furthering my knowledge and competence through a commitment to lifelong learning.”

Continuing Education

Each veterinary technician licensed to practice in the State of Georgia must obtain eleven (11) hours of Board approved continuing education per biennium for license renewal. Of the eleven (11) hours required, one (1) per renewal period must be acquired in Georgia laws, rules and professionalism (LEAP). Continuing education hours may be acquired in person, by live, interactive webinars, or pre-recorded, non-interactive webinars that incorporate measures to ensure active participation throughout the course, to include, but not limited to, a content-based, post-course test with a minimum of five questions per CE credit. Georgia licensees who do not practice in the State of Georgia are not required to meet the one (1) hour requirement in Georgia laws, rules and professionalism.

Effective January 1, 2026, the law requires that all continuing education must be reported to CE Broker. An extension of the renewal period does not apply as an extension of the timeframe to complete continuing education requirements. Licensees must still complete their continuing education according to board rules.
