This lecture will explore the critical role of urine sediment analysis in the diagnosis and management of urinary tract diseases in canines and felines. Attendees will gain insights into the methodology of urine sediment collection and preparation, as well as the interpretation of microscopic findings. We will discuss common sediment constituents, including cells, crystals, bacteria, and casts, and their clinical significance in various pathological conditions. Case studies will be presented to illustrate the practical application of sediment analysis in diagnosing conditions such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease, and metabolic disorders. By the end of the session, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of how urine sediment analysis can enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve patient outcomes in veterinary practice.

This lecture will provide a detailed examination of the various canine and feline parasites that can be identified through blood smear analysis. Participants will learn about the significance of blood smears in diagnosing parasitic infections, including protozoa, helminths, and ectoparasites. The session will cover the life cycles, transmission routes, and clinical implications of common blood-borne parasites such as Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, Babesia, and Dirofilaria immitis. Attendees will be guided through the techniques for preparing and examining blood smears, with an emphasis on recognizing morphological features that assist in accurate identification. Case studies will illustrate the impact of these parasites on animal health and the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment. By the conclusion of the lecture, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their diagnostic capabilities in veterinary parasitology

Ocular emergencies in veterinary medicine pose an immediate threat to an animal’s vision and require prompt identification and intervention to prevent irreversible damage. This presentation provides veterinary professionals with a foundational understanding of the most common ophthalmic emergencies, including corneal ulcers, traumatic proptosis, anterior lens luxation, ocular foreign bodies, and glaucoma. Attendees will review basic ocular anatomy, learn to recognize clinical signs, understand diagnostic techniques such as fluorescein staining and tonometry, and explore appropriate treatment and referral strategies. Emphasis is placed on early detection through thorough eye exams, the use of proper diagnostic tools, and the importance of client education and timely intervention to improve patient outcomes.
